Interesting Fact: Growing up with ten brothers and sisters gave Cathy an appreciation of complexity and a knack for negotiation.

Primary Area of Practice: Commercial and Insurance Litigation

Cathy Rottier practices in all facets of litigation, including discovery, trial and appeal. She has presented oral arguments before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals and the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Her primary focus is on torts, product liability, professional negligence, commercial disputes, environmental claims and insurance law issues.

  • Graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School, Order of the Coif
  • Serves as mediator for the Dane County Mediation Program and at the request of private parties
  • Co-author of the chapter on Bad Faith in The Law of Damages (State Bar of Wisconsin CLE Books)
  • Co-author for several years of the article on Torts for Annual Survey of Wisconsin Law (State Bar of Wisconsin CLE Books)
  • Speaker at continuing legal education seminars
  • Served as co-instructor of a Trial Advocacy course at the University of Wisconsin Law School
  • Member, Western District of Wisconsin Bar Association (served as Committee Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, President-Elect and President), Dane County Bar Association (served as Judicial Selection Committee Chair), Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers, Civil Trial Counsel of Wisconsin, Legal Association for Women and the James E. Doyle American Inn of Court
  • Earned a master's degree and completed doctoral studies in American History at The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.
  • Earned an undergraduate degree in History, magna cum laude, from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin

More about Cathy:

Cathy served on the Board of Directors of Wisconsin Special Olympics for several years. She was a research assistant at the University of Michigan for the Bicentennial Project in Washington, D.C., and once managed Lum's Family Restaurants in the Madison area.
